FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the steps to get my Sales Associate real estate license in Kentucky?
The Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC) requires four main steps to get your Kentucky Sales Associate license:
- Education: Successfully complete the mandated 96 hours of pre-licensing education from a KREC-approved provider like Kentucky Real Estate College.
- Background Check: Obtain an FBI criminal background check.
- Pass the Exam: Pass the state and national portions of the Kentucky Real Estate Licensing Exam (administered by PSI).
- Apply: Apply for your license within 60 days of passing the exam and find an actively licensed Kentucky principal broker to sponsor you.
How long is the Kentucky 96-Hour Pre-Licensing Course?
The 96-hour pre-licensing course is completed entirely online and is self-paced. The required hours must be completed before you can sit for the state licensing exam. While the timeline is flexible, KREC has a few requirements:
- You cannot receive credit for more than 9 hours of study per day.
- The proctored final exam will not be accessible until the 11th day after starting the course.
You can study on your schedule, making it easy to balance education with your current job.
Is Kentucky Real Estate College an approved provider by the Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC)?
Yes. Kentucky Real Estate College is a state-approved proprietary school authorized to offer the required 96-hour pre-licensing, 48-hour post-licensing (PLE), continuing education (CE), and Broker courses. As a trusted, locally owned & operated provider, our courses meet all KREC content and tracking requirements to ensure your certificate is valid for licensure.
I have a real estate license in another state. Can I get a Kentucky license through reciprocity?
Yes, Kentucky currently has reciprocity agreements with several states, including Ohio, Florida, Illinois, and Tennessee. If you are an active licensee in one of these states, you can get your Kentucky license by completing the 40-hour Kentucky Reciprocal License Law Course and passing only the Kentucky-specific portion of the state exam. We offer the KREC-approved 40-hour course entirely online.
What is the 48-Hour Post-License Education (PLE) requirement?
New Kentucky sales associates must complete 48 hours of Post-License Education (PLE) within the first two years of obtaining and activating their initial license. This is a separate, mandatory requirement after you are licensed. Our comprehensive 48-hour PLE package is 100% online and includes the 32 mandatory hours of topics (like Agency, Contracts, and Risk Management) and 16 hours of electives.
